It is not easy to get into the (wait, let me look it up) Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. As Prof Perez explained to me later, after quite a number of robberies, one with machine guns, the campus got fenced in and you can only enter with a valid university ID. I had to take the visitor‘s entrance and draw a number, then wait until I was called to a counter where my passport was evaluated. I was only let in because I had an appointment and my name was previously transferred to the entrance people by computer. You cannot simply walk inside and have a look. Scary, but inside it does feel safe...
For the next weeks I got entered into the system again. I am so lucky to be able to attend some graduate classes Prof Cerron Palomino is giving, despite his sabbatical. I will also meet many more exciting people! I am so deeply indebted to Profs Perez and Cerron Palomino, also for their warm welcome and most generous hospitality! I am quite eager to return to campus tomorrow and start work.
So, well, the cultural part of my visit here is now being decreased in favour of work. I still want to go to Nazca and I haven‘t seen the museums in Lima yet, but I can do that in the weekends. Work is catching up. But I have to say, I booked a wonderful beach vacation for the week after Easter, my last week in Peru, a nice and relaxed ending. My hotel is in Mancora, just google it and you‘ll find the most amazing beach!!!
